Cedar Hill Girls Soccer Team Aims for Return to the Playoffs
MICHAEL SUDHALTER

The Cedar Hill High School Girls Soccer Team reached the playoffs last season after an eight-year hiatus.

Now, the program is ready, not only to return, but to advance a few rounds into the postseason tournament.

The growth and progress they’ve shown so far has been encouraging, and I’m looking forward to building on that momentum,” Cedar Hill head girls soccer coach Tony Vortriede said. “Success will depend on playing as a cohesive unit, taking responsibility, and fully committing to the process. There are no shortcuts. Energy, effort, accountability, and communication are just as critical as talent.”

The Longhorns, who open the season on January 6 against Ennis at Longhorn Stadium, have six seniors on the team. McKinlee Butler signed with the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, an NCAA Division I program. She’ll be joined by fellow seniors Skyler Murphy, Kloyee Gonzalez, Deleila Chavez, and Jacqueline Vigil. Ashley Ayala is a senior who played junior varsity last season.

Butler, a senior captain, is once again expected to be the team’s leader on and off the field.

“As McKinlee enters her fourth year as a varsity player, she is well-prepared to elevate her leadership role,” Vortriede said. “She has consistently led by example on the field, and as a senior, we are looking for her to become even more vocal and continue leading from the front.”

Also returning are District 6A-11 Goaltender MVP Laila Cotton and 6A-11 Defensive Newcomer of the Year Loryn Malone. Zoe Stephens, a junior, is also a team captain.

“One of our biggest strengths is our ability to move the ball quickly and effectively,” Vortriede said. “Our junior class is also very athletic, and we expect several of those players to have a significant impact this season.”

Key newcomers include juniors Hazel Torres, Camryn Rios, Amaya Williams, and Malia Mobley, along with freshman Marlee Rogers.
