Cedar Hill ISD Graduate Returns To The Classroom As Robotics, Technology Teacher
MICHAEL SUDHALTER

It was only a dozen relatively short years ago that Tymir King walked the halls of Bessie Coleman Middle School as a student.

“Every day, I walk down the halls and can’t believe it,” said King, who graduated from BCMS in 2014 and from Cedar Hill High School in 2018. “Being a student in Cedar Hill ISD taught me about life and becoming a man. I don’t think I could have learned those lessons anywhere else.”

Today, King is a second-year Technology Applications and Robotics Teacher at Bessie Coleman where he was a student from 2012-2014. Prior to BCMS, King attended Plummer and High Pointe Elementary Schools and West Intermediate School.

In addition to being a BCMS educator, he’s also the older brother of a current BCMS student.

“Attending Bessie Coleman Middle School was a very transformative experience,” said King. “The teachers encouraged us to do our work. We learned about independence and responsibilities.”

During King’s time at CHHS, he played varsity basketball, alongside Paul Andrews, a fellow CHHS graduate who now teaches Business and coaches boys’ basketball at CHHS.

King graduated in the top 6 percent of his class at CHHS and studied Radio, Television, and Film at The University of Texas at Austin.

He went on to work in audio/visual installation, camera/film production, and sales, but the draw of friends and family in Cedar Hill made him want to return home.

“Friends encouraged me to try teaching,” King said. “I love seeing those ‘a-ha’ moments when students understand the lesson. In Robotics, the students are learning lessons, piece by piece, and developing an understanding of coding.”
