CHISD Custodians Prepare For Students’ Return

When Cedar Hill ISD students return to their classrooms on Monday, August 11, they will notice campuses with clean floors.

“It takes a lot of hard work in the summer to get these buildings prepared and ready to go,” Cedar Hill ISD Custodial Supervisor Anthony Valentine said.

Two CHISD custodians – Sara Aristondo and Aidee DeLeon – waxed every inch of every CHISD campus over the summer. A single coat of wax takes 45 minutes to an hour to dry.

They started the week before high school graduation and finished three weeks early.

Aristondo (Plummer Elementary School) and DeLeon (Permenter Middle School) work the night shift during the academic school year, but they shifted to mornings in the summer. They worked each morning from 5 a.m. through 1:30 p.m.

“I used to work at companies and warehouses where it was really hot – this is easy compared to that,” said Aristondo, who’s worked in CHISD for three years.

DeLeon calls her decade in CHISD her “favorite job.” Prior to that, she worked in a neighboring district for eight years.
