Collegiate Rising Senior Grateful for Baylor TIP Program
Collegiate High School rising senior Shyanne Howard said being part of the Baylor Talent Identification Program (TIP) has been an important part of her educational experience.
“It’s been really fun – I’ve met a lot of new people, and I’ve taken a lot of classes that have broadened my learning experiences,” said Howard, who was recently elected President of Collegiate’s National Honor Society chapter.
Baylor TIP started about five years ago, succeeding the former Duke TIP program when the North Carolina-based program closed in 2020.
The organization’s mission is identify talented scholars in STEM and the humanities and to provide learning opportunities through integrating academic excellence and mentorship. They have summer programs where the students stay in the Baylor University dormitories.
Howard applied for the program as a freshman and has since taken summer courses in art, poetry, science and math.
"Shyanne has advanced through the Baylor TIP program and is now leading the presentations and is the "face" of the leadership program," Collegiate Counselor Salillian McDaniel said.
It was a natural fit, considering Howard was part of the Gifted & Talented program in Cedar Hill ISD.
Howard is strongly considering attending Baylor University in 2026-2027, largely because of her experiences with Baylor TIP.
Her wide range of potential careers reflects her plentiful experiences in the Baylor TIP Program. She is thinking about studying Psychology, Interior Design, Real Estate, Cybersecurity or Photography.
“My favorite class is Psychology,” Howard said.
