Former Cedar Hill Standout Begins Coaching Career in Tennessee

Javien Clemmer remembers all of the lessons of life and football that he learned from his coaches during the fall of 2020.

"They always encouraged us to keep moving forward," Clemmer said. "They taught us how to navigate through life and how to become a better man, even though not everything will go your way."

Clemmer, a Cedar Hill High School Class of 2021 graduate, arrived in Cedar Hill in the summer of 2020. He transferred to CHHS from Camden High School in Camden, Arkansas.

The Arkansas native was recently hired as the wide receivers coach at Centennial High School in Franklin, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville.

Nashville is also where he owns a wide receiver training business called "One Step Ahead," and where he's completing his bachelor's degree in health and physical education at Tennessee State University.

"Centennial went to the state semifinals last season," Clemmer said. "We're hoping to get back there and even further."

Clemmer chose Nashville because it combined the city feel of the Dallas area with some of the country charm of his Arkansas hometown.

At CHHS, Clemmer made an immediate impact as one of quarterback Kaidon Salter's favorite targets. That was especially true in the Longhorns' 27-24 overtime victory over Rockwall-Heath in the state quarterfinals, when Clemmer caught 10 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns.

CHHS went on to finish as the state runner-up that season. Clemmer played football at New Mexico State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but injuries prevented him from duplicating his high school success at the collegiate level.

"My experience at Cedar Hill is what ultimately got me into coaching," Clemmer said. "The impact that the Cedar Hill community had on me, and the impact that the coaches had on me both on and off the field, made a lasting difference. Playing with Kaidon was amazing."
