Sosa Selected As National Merit Finalist

From a young age, Cedar Hill High School senior Grace Sosa knew that academics was important to her. Her parents emphasized it, and after a while, her motivation became intrinsic.

“As I got older, it stuck with me,” Sosa said. “If not, I wouldn’t have been able to get into Northeastern University.”

Sosa was selected as one of 15,000, National Merit Scholarship Finalists nationally and a recipient of the PPG National Merit Scholarship Award. A million and a half students apply for National Merit Scholarship each year. The program started in 1955 to award academic achievement in the United States.

Sosa, who will study Computer Science at Northeastern University in Boston, graduated from Dallas College with an Associate’s Degree earlier this month through Early College Academy (ECA). On Friday, she will graduate third in the Cedar Hill High School Class of 2025.

“It still feels surreal,” Sosa said. “It’s all coming together.”

Northeastern has something called the Co-Op program where its students taking classes one semester and working full time in the next semester. By the time students graduate, they’ll have at least a couple years of full-time work experience that will be helpful when they apply for jobs.

Sosa is looking forward to studying in Boston, which has 36 colleges and universities in the city limits and nearly 50 in the Greater Boston area.

A Violinist since her days at Bray Elementary, Sosa is also considering minoring in Music. She also played on the Cedar Hill Tennis Team and would like to continue playing recreationally.
